I’ve been going to Mexico on holiday since 1999 and I love it, but in 2017 I started Dialysis  and just thought that my traveling days were over. 

I managed to find San Javier Hospital and Dr Alfonso A. Contreras Gallardo and his team. 

I first went in 2018 for a three week break and was extremely impressed with the care I received, so much so that in 2019 I spent eight weeks in Puerto Vallarta and received all my treatment at San Javier.  The Doctor and his team were amazing, the hospital is very clean and my treatment was more efficient than I receive in the UK, the Doctor is there every day and speaks excellent English, I would recommend every thing about this team from the reception staff to the nurses, so don’t let dialysis stop you from living, let The Doctor and his team look after you.

I spent a week of luxury in Mexico. I was very concerned as a United citizen spending a week in this city of the unknown of medical treatment for my hemodialysis. I located the hospital and met with Dr Contreras.  This fine doctor was a book of knowledge and wisdom. The Doctor made my anxiety melt I was there in a country where I did not speak the same language. The Doctor spoke English so well I had no worries as he oversaw this whole clinic with ease. Dr Contreras truly made my vacation to Mexico part of the most memorable. It’s hard to think that a hospital and hemodialysis a great vacation but this man made it the most memorable. Thank you for such a great experience.

Dr. Contreras runs a great clinic. I was there for 2 weeks (6 sessions), and the staff was helpful and friendly. The unit was clean and modern. The dialysis machines were newer than the ones I used in Montreal. The lines and needles were all new and discarded after use. The chairs were comfortable, and each had a TV. It was a quiet and relaxing room. The staff, and Dr. Contreras became friends, and treated me as a friend. I’ve since had a transplant, but I would highly recommend that if you are traveling and need dialysis in the area, call Dr. Contreras  and book  your sessions in his clinic.

I first met Dr. Contreras in Feb 2013 at San Javier Hospital in Nuevo Vallarta.

I was initially hesitant about receiving dialysis treatments outside of Canada.  Upon walking into the facility, I was immediately impressed with the exceptional level of cleanliness.   It was unlike anything I had ever seen in a hospital before. 

I received dialysis treatments three times per week during our six-week stay in Puerto Vallarta.  The nurses were always very accommodating, friendly, and helpful.  Dr. Contreras checked in on me during each appointment to offer support, encouragement and share a laugh or two. 

In August 2013, I was fortunate enough to receive a kidney transplant and no longer required dialysis.  We have returned to Puerto Vallarta each winter since knowing we will receive exceptional medical care. 

For the past 7 years, Dr. Contreras has become our family doctor during the three to four months we winter in Mexico.   Over the years he has treated my wife and I for vertigo, back pain, pneumonia, and high blood pressure to name just a few things.   During each appointment he continues to impress us with his knowledge, communication skills, quick response time and patient-centric approach. 

We could not be happier with the service and support we have received from Dr. Contreras over the years. We look forward to many more years of wintering in Nuevo Vallarta.  We know we will receive excellent medical care from Dr. Contreras if needed.
